Asbestos discovered on train tracks at Flinders Street Station in Australia

MELBOURNE, Australia – Asbestos was discovered on a section of a track at Flinders Street Station.

Last March, contractors working for Metro removed asbestos from the cement roof on the shed at platform one on the west end of Flinders Street Station.

During the abatement, large amounts of asbestos fell over the tracks.

Luckily, this part of the platform is not used by passengers, so the risk of exposure to the mineral is localized.

Last Wednesday, Metro issued a warning to drivers not to get out of their cabins and onto the tracks if their trains were to break down or malfunction in the area.

Authorities say they are planning to remove the contaminated materials but do not know when or how it will happen without disrupting train schedules.

Chris Whitefield, a spokesman for Metro, said there was no danger of exposure from the asbestos. Metro hired asbestos consultant Mairin to determine the level of contamination in the soil surrounding the old platform.

According to Mairin, the contamination ”while undisturbed is negligible”.

However, not everyone is satisfied with that answer. One Metro employee said there had been concerns over workers about asbestos particles being disturbed because of the trains.

Asbestos, when left alone and undisturbed, is relatively not harmful. However, when the mineral is broken up, its particles are unleashed into the air and can be breathed in by those around it. Once a victim breathes in asbestos particles, the fibers become lodged in the victim’s lungs, leading to countless diseases such as mesothelioma cancer.

Cancer takes Stephen Solarz

Former congressman Stephen Solarz died of oesophageal cancer recently. Stephen Solarz was a Brooklyn Democrat who had a strong say in foreign policy and he may be one of the reasons jobs and businesses are fleeing that high tax state.

Stephen Solarz was Known as the Micromanager of Foreign Policies

Stephen Solarz was defeated in the elections in 1992, but until then he had gathered a reputation of being formidable using his membership of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Stephen Solarz was a staunch politician who accused and criticized presidents and house members alike. Stephen Solarz had interrogated many bureaucrats and he had no regards for his social dislike. It seems he took integrity over his reputation which is rare.

Not Afraid at All

Stephen Solarz often used public hearings and advocacy in the press to prove a point, and he disclosed the real faces of several politicians and their dead-end policies single handedly. Stephen Solarz has been the biggest critic of all of the presidents of the United States and their reforms, and he would clearly state his opinion in front of the whole world. How to file a Mesothelioma Lawsuit

People who are working or have worked in unsafe environments that produce asbestos dust can become affected by a type of cancer known as mesothelioma. The disease manifests itself only in later stages. Expenses for treatment are frightening. If you are the victim or have a close relative, you can file a suit against the employer as soon as it is diagnosed.

A Mesothelioma Lawsuit

If an employer has continued to use asbestos after knowing its harmful effects or indirectly subjected his/her employees to be exposed to asbestos particles, the employer can be charged with a criminal act of indifference and negligence. The standard of proof required in such cases is less than that of the other criminal cases since it falls under the personal injury category. Hence, contact a mesothelioma lawyer to file a lawsuit once you are diagnosed with this terrible disease.

Step 1 – Strong Documentation

After the initial diagnosis of mesothelioma, get it checked once again by an oncologist and preserve the results and data from the biopsy tests, x-rays, or CT scans. These documents are essential to file a mesothelioma lawsuit.

Step 2 – Selecting your Attorney

Though some people want to proceed without an attorney, this is probably unwise. You can get a list of mesothelioma lawyers in your locality from the internet or through business directories. Before making a final decision, ask for credentials, look online to determine this person’s credibility, and call other lawyers to inquire about this person’s acumen.

Step 3 – Filing the Case

Soon after this diagnosis, file a case against the employer. The sooner you file, the sooner you can be compensated and there is a statute of limitation for these types of cases.

Step 4 – Preparing for the Case

You must be ready with the vital evidence which should verify the employer, period of employment, and asbestos handling mixed in with your former job description. Apart from this, you may have to give consent by signing a form to allow your lawyer to look into confidential materials like medical records, social security documents, and more. From this, she will establish your case until it becomes bedrock.

Step 5 – Defense Session

You have to undergo a long process of questioning and scrutiny from your former employer’s legal team or representative. You will be questioned about the time of diagnosis, previous medical history, professional history, and working environments, and more to possibly undermine or seed doubt into your case.
