Slidell, LA. – A Slidell man, Thomas M. Kenney, 66, who contracted malignant mesothelioma after working with asbestos in two manufacturing plants, was awarded a $7.55 million settlement. This is believed to be the largest award in Louisiana history.
Jurors agreed, Thursday, Sept. 8th, that defendants Rexam Beverage Can Company and two asbestos manufacturing companies, John Crane Inc. and Haveg Inc. were negligent and responsible for exposing Kenney to hazardous levels of asbestos.
Exposure to asbestos can lead to a number of debilitating illnesses including mesothelioma cancer. Asbestos victims find that mesothelioma attorneys have the ability to win lawsuits that they need for their medical care.
Kenney worked at the American Can factory from 1967 to 1974, and he worked as a pipe fitter for Tenneco between 1977 and 1988. During this time, he was exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos-containing materials manufactured by John Crane Inc. and Haveg Inc., which were used at both facilities. So often, manufacturers, who produce items that contain asbestos, fail to warn the people that work with their products of the dangers that it poses to their health. And many workers are not informed on how to protect themselves from exposure.
Medical treatments for mesothelioma can be expensive, ranging from $150,000 to a million dollars. Because treatment is so costly, these individuals employ mesothelioma lawyers to seek funds needed for their care.
Mesothelioma attorneys have the knowledge and experience to win large settlements for their clients who must deal with devastating illnesses caused by asbestos.
